This graph uses only data from myvocab.info; however, it coincides with many other estimates that are out there.

Additionally, college students are often estimated to have a 20,000 to 30,000 word vocabulary and graduate students have been estimated to be around 40,000 words.

To know how many words English has, one has to agree first on which words count:
  1. Latin Scientific names for Flora & Fauna?
  2. Computing & Coding terms?
  3. Slang words that fall out of use?

This is why you may find estimates ranging from around 100,000 to 1,000,000 words.
