The gif below demonstrates how different languages can share a semantic concept yet map them differently into different uses and applications. Thus, translation will find some overlap where a 1:1 translation will be work or at least be adequate but some branches will result in errors.
VOCABULARY SIZE
The graph to the left uses only data from myvocab.info; however, it coincides with many other estimates that are out there.
Additionally, college students are often estimated to have a 20,000 to 30,000 word vocabulary and graduate students have been estimated to be around 40,000 words.
